Abstract

ThepaperdiscussesthefinancialissuesofthelibraryschoolsresidinginthepublicuniversitiesespeciallyintheSouthAsianregion.Itspecifiestheparticularissuesfacedbythelibraryschoolsbecauseoftheirsmallsize,highproportionofwomenasstaffandstudents,lackofresearchandtheirtendencytorelatemoretotheprofessionalworldthantheacademicworld.ItprovidesadetailedSWOTanalysisoftheNationalInstituteofLibraryandInformationSciences(NILIS).ItalsodescribestheAnsoffMatrix,which is a commonly used tool by the business organisations to develop market–productstrategies.ThepaperanalysestheeducationprogrammescommencedbytheNILISduring2003-2005inthelightofmarketing-productstrategy.ItdiscussesthesuccessoftheendeavourusingtheBostonMatrix,whichisatoolusedtomeasurethesuccessofthemarket–productstrategy.Thepaperalsohighlightssomethreatsposedbytheenvironment,whichhinderthesuccessfulimplementationoftheprogrammesandconcludesthatanauthoritytomanagefinancialmattersandqualifiedstaffwithasoundknowledgeoffinancialregulationsisessentialforthesuccessofthemarket–product strategies.
