Development & Standardization of Shadanga Panaya as a User-friendly Oral Rehydration Powder

Abstract

Shadanga Panaya is a traditional Ayurveda decoction with six ingredients, used for treating fever, Pitta Dosha vitiation, diarrhea, and showed promise in treating COVID-19 symptoms. Due to a lack of standardization and quality parameters, it was developed and standardized as a userfriendly oral rehydration powder using the spray dryer process with an added filler. Following WHO guidelines Standardization was carried out, Physicochemical analysis, TLC and HPTLC design, electrolyte and heavy metals analysis, and microbial contamination. The developed product's physical characteristics and organoleptic properties met Ayurveda standards. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, carbohydrates, saponins, phenols, and glycosides. The TLC system with Chloroform: Acetone: Glacial acid (15.2:3:1) was developed for quality control, showing identical components with its ingredients. Although the electrolyte composition and pH didn’t match the oral rehydration solution, further adjustments will be made.
