Abstract

There was accelerated absorption of caffeine in the presence of tea in the rat. The metabolism of caffeine when it was administered with polyphenol free tea infusion was different from when it was coadministered with tea infusion. The urinary and serum data suggest that attered metabolism of cafffeine may be attributed to increased absorption of caffeine and endogenous. Methylxantheines and/or increased metabolism in the presence of polyphenols and/or due to product inhibition of caffeine metabolism by endogenous theophylline and theobromine in the absence of polyphenols.
