The study attempted to examine the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching learning process. Case study method was adopted for the study. The school selected for the study is one of the type 1AB school located in Colombo district which has a Computer Learning Centre. The following objectives were expected to be realized :
1. To survey the attitudes of students and teachers with regards to ICT skills.
2. To examine the ability to integrate the use of ICT as a teaching learning process within the classroom.
3. To examine, whether ICT equipment can clearly be effective in improving student’s performance within a subject context.
4. To identify the problems and challenges teachers and students face in relation to knowledge and skills development in ICT.
5. To suggest ways of improving the level of ICT use in Schools in Sri Lanka.
According to the study, to improve the level of ICT use in schools in Sri Lanka, following useful suggestions could be introduced:
Students in grade 10 and 11 should be clearly informed that the aim of allocated time is to get for enhance their knowledge enhanced on other subjects through the ICT, with the help of the subject teacher depending on how the time table is arranged.
The training for teachers should be with hands-on experience, with plenty of help and guidance.
Provide more materials other than the CD given by the NIE and make arrangements to download the materials through internet.
Ensure that all students and teachers in school benefit from the effective use of ICT in teaching and learning process. |
