Abstract:
Specific therapy of glomerulonephritis has been far from satisfactory. Twelve patients with biopsy proven membrano-proliferative glomerulonephritis were treated with the combination of warfarin. dipyridamole and cyclophosphamide with or without prednisolone as recommended by an Australian group at the Royal Melbourne university. Of these patients six showed clinical and Biochemical remmision and are now well enough to be gainfully employed. Two have had relapses with recurrent hospitalization. Four of the patients progressed to chronic renal failure and three of them have died during this 5 year follow up period. We have also noticed a relationship between the reduction in 24 hour urinary protein excretion after therapy and the prognosis.
