dc.description.abstract Seven chronic haemodialysis patients were followed up from May 1984 to December 1984. These patients received an average of 14 hours haemodialjtsis (6-8 reatments/months of 6-8 hours duration.) Age range of this group of patients was 21-68 years with an average of 35 years. There were 3 males and 2 females followed up. Each individual haemodialysls was monitored in detail every hour. Careful records were maintained with respect to their clinical state, biochemical state and rehabilitation. The vascular access used was 2 Scribner silastic shunts and 3 Brecia-Cimino A-V fistulae. In this group of patients the average blood urea before the Ist dialysis was commenced was 25.5 mmol/L compared to the predialysis blood urea at end of the study periods of 10.06 mmol/L. The average drop in blood urea per dialysis was 8.51 mmol/L.
