dc.description.abstract A principal aim of antenatal care is the early detection of small for gestational age (SGA) infants and the identification of true fetal growth restriction, as they can lead to adverse pregnancy out art appears to be unsatisfactory and therefore it is advisable to develop a reliable customized chart or use in Sri Lanka. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and applicability of using customized charts developed for African in the UK and the Gestational Age +/-2cm GA+/-2) chart for the detection of SGA infants. This prospective observational comparative study was conducted at three maternity nits in Teaching Hospital Mahamodara, Galle. The study sample consisted of 4.16 patients followed up until delivery. 67.5 percent of the ample was found to be in their first or second pregnancies and the average age of others was found to be 27.5 (SO 6). 3.6percent of pregnancies ended as premature deliveries. The average birth weight in this sample was 2.99 kg (SO 0.46). In the sample 60 (14.4 percent ) of the babies weighed less than 2.5kg. 59(14.2 percent ) of the study
