dc.description.abstractIn the i n t r o d u c t o r y chapter as John Dewy says " the f e l t d i f f i c u l ty i s described. As the questionaire and the i n t e r v i e w techniques were used to measure the independent variables i n the study , some e f f e c t i v e measur es of constructing questionaires and i n t e r v i e w schedules are discussed i n t h i s chapter . In the secound chapter , the various findings and theories of leading psychologists , anthropologists , and s o c i o l o g i s t s such as C y r il Burt , Michael P h i l l i p s o n , Robert Park , Lynn MacDonald , T.P.Morrris , Betty Spinley , A l b e r t Cohen , D.J.Best , John Barron Mays , Michael Argy l e , J.H.Bargot ,Harriet C.W i l s o n , Robert Andry , A.S.Makarenko and others have been discussed . The t h i r d chapter i s devoted to discuss the major socio-economic factors , under four main headings , namely ; c u l t u r a l , m a t e r i a l ^ econo mic , motivational and emotional . Under these four areas 25 f a c t o r s have been selected for measurement . I n t h i s chapter , some important tables relevant to the j u v e n i l e delinquency problem i n S r i Lanka , have been given , which are extracted from the a d m i n i s t r a t i v e report C 197^ ) of the Commissioner of Probation and C h i l d Care • In the kth chapter , the d e t a i l s with regard to the s e l e c t i o n of sample of 178 c h i l d r e n and how the study was conducted are given . Ehe english version of the questionaire i s a l s o included i n t h i s chapter • The 5th cha-pter gives the a n a l y s i s of data and the i n t e r p r e t a t i o n of r e s u l t s . The l a s t chapter has been devoted to discuss the remedial measures that have been taken i n S r i Lanka and i n other countries i n r e l a t i o n to this problem , and some independent suggestions too have been included . The sinhala version of the q u e s t i o n a i r e / i n t e r v i e w schedule that was used i n the study ; the summary of the answers or the data gathered ( i n percentages ) and the l i s t of references are given i n the l a s t part of the work .
