Title: Biochemical monitoring following transplantation

Abstract: Accuracy in biochemical reporting is of utmost importance in the after care of the kidney transplant patient. A facility called the renal Reseach Laboratory was set up by the colloborative efforts of the Departments of Medicine and Physiology to fullfil this need. The first kidney transplant patient was monitored closely with the help of this laboratory in addition to other private laboratories. Daily monitoring of creatine clearence, urina clearance, Na, K balance i.e serum and urine estimations urine analysis was performed. In addition Hb%, WBC/DC, blood film, platelet count, reculocyte count, blood indices were done daily. In the first few days post transplant the S. creatinine and urea values were monitored 6 hourly.
